The State Highway Administration's (SHA) District 1 (Wicomico County) is recruiting for a Regional Access Engineer (Transportation Engineer V) position. This position is open to anyone who meets the minimum and selective qualifications listed below. This is a position specific recruitment. The resulting list of eligible candidates will be used to fill this vacancy only. You will need to reapply for any future recruitment conducted for this job classification.

Nature of work: This position represents SHA as a Regional Access Engineer, providing coordination with federal, state, county, and municipal agencies, as well as elected officials, citizens, developers, and consulting engineers for all projects submitted through the development and permit review process. This position will conduct regular coordination meetings with the county offices, meet on site with engineers and elected officials during the permit review process, and during construction. The Regional Access Engineer will coordinate with the Assistant District Engineer on construction, maintenance and/or project development for inspection services or utility permit issues. This position may also supervise, manage, facilitate, interpret and/or negotiate the application of policies, guidelines, policies, or regulations as they relate to complex and challenging access and highway related improvements for developer projects. This position ensures compliance with sound engineering practices and applicable codes, regulations, and specifications through the direct supervision of Area Engineers. During the Engineering Access Permits Division's reorganization transitional process, this position may continue to review plans, letters, and complete permits activities for one or more area engineers, ensuring compliance with sound engineering practices and applicable codes, regulations, and specifications. This position also provides technical direction to consultant engineers to facilitate coordination of SHA requirements.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Possession of a bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Five (5) years of experience in professional engineering.


Selective Qualification: Two and a half (2.5) years of the required experience must have involved the management of highway construction or design projects.

*A Selective Qualification is more focused in scope than the minimum qualifications for this classification. Selective Qualifications are utilized when the position requires specific or additional bona fide occupational qualifications (i.e., knowledge, skill, or ability). No substitutions are allowed for a selective qualification.


Notes:
1. Additional work experience in professional engineering, or in technical engineering at the journey level or above, may be substituted on a year for year basis for the required education.
2. Possession of a master's degree in engineering may be substituted for one year of the required experience.
3. Persons currently registered as Professional Engineers in the state of Maryland, or in a State with comparable requirements, are considered to have met the education requirements. The SQ seems slightly vague. I added a few words. Let me know if they're okay with it.
Licenses & Certifications

Candidate must possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the state of Maryland.
