Background:

DAWSON's West Construction region covers the western half of the United States. We have identified a need for a Senior Estimator for the Region based on the ever growing need to provide more focused and competitive pricing to our existing clients and to assist in developing DAWSON's footprint within the region. This need is for competed acquisitions to include open solicitations and IDIQ task order solicitations.

Salary Range $90,000 - $110,000 based on experience

Desired Outcome:

  • A more focused approach to estimating to ensure less risk to DAWSON both from an estimating and project execution standpoint.

Job Description:

  • Applicant will be responsible for the following items:

Estimating:

  • Work with Regional Program Managers and Director to identify and pursue new opportunities for the West Construction Region to include new opportunities/contracts and IDIQ Task Order RFPs.
  • Serve as the Pricing Lead on RFPs efforts the region; full ownership of project estimates.
  • Prepare quantity takeoffs and pricing summaries for major divisions of construction projects to assist in developing price proposals.
  • Develop main summary estimate including General Conditions and other direct costs.
  • Identify and source subcontract partners to support in pricing development and execution of awards.
  • Create, Manage, and Maintain a subcontractor Database for current locations of work and new opportunities
  • Create, manage, and maintain historical data from previous estimates, experiences, and subcontractor knowledge to assist in production of estimate.
  • Review RFP documents and attend pre-bid meetings/site visits to determine scope of work and required contents of the estimate
  • Coordinate and work with program staff during proposal process to minimize scope gap.
  • Create and Maintain Bid Packages for subcontractors when applicable.
  • Coordinate with DAWSON's proposal department and technical writing staff to ensure proposal technical writing is in line with pricing approach.
  • Coordinate and work with DAWSON's design staff on design-build acquisitions to develop bid assist documents and furnish to subcontractors.
  • Create, Input, and Manage RFP RFI's into Government systems (Email, PROJNET, etc.)
  • Must be able to multi-task and estimate projects simultaneously.
  • For project wins, assist execution team with project kickoff and preconstruction planning as needed.
  • During execution of design-build contracts, assist project team with design reviews to monitor for scope and cost creep. Perform estimates at design stages, as assigned, to ensure design aligns with as-bid pricing and approach.
  • Buy-out responsibilities after contract award when applicable.

Business Development:

  • Provide solutions to Government's needs and acquisition strategies
  • Assist with attendance of new project site visits and/or proposal development
  • Attendance of DAWSON weekly Virtual Business Development meetings to report on RFP status.

Skills:

  • Solid Understanding of all types of Construction (New Construction/Ground Up, Renovation, and Design/Build, and Secured Spaces)
  • Understand DAWSON's Business Model and able to incorporate into project estimates.
  • Able to Communicate well and/clearly with Others

  • Have an understanding in the Government Acquisition processes and types of contracts.

  • Proficient in the following software:
    • Microsoft Office Suite
    • On-Screen Takeoff Software
    • Smart-Bid
    • Adobe Acrobat
    • Bluebeam
    • Timberline and/or Other Estimating Software

Education/Experience:

  • 4-year degree from a college/university in Construction Management and/or engineering related field
  • 10 Years of estimating experience as a General Contractor with at least 4 years of that estimating Government work
