Job Summary

Teach a music section of a general education face-to-face course that introduces students to music, theatre, and the visual arts. Four sections are available during the 2024-25 academic year.

This position may be combined with other open positions in the Department of Music and Performing Arts, including Orchestra director, director of Lucia Chorum, and director of keyboard activities/accompanist, depending on the qualifications of the candidate

Responsibilities

* Provide regular large group lectures (four per semester) and be present during large group lectures of art and theatre instructors.
* Lead small group with lectures and activities connected with fundamentals of music
* Plan and oversee two Music field trips that may take place in the evening
* Develop syllabus in collaboration with teaching team
* Grade assignments, provide feedback to students, hold regular office hours
* Contribute to an academic environment that seeks to advance inclusive excellence in the program and the University

Skills

* Ability and interest in teaching undergraduate students entering into rigorous college-level work in a residential liberal arts environment
* Ability to engage students in both a larger lecture and smaller hands-on setting
* Familiarity with (or ability to learn) course shell technology such as Moodle
* Ability to work with a team
* Clear communication and organizational skills

Experience

Experience teaching music or music history required; experience teaching at the college level strongly preferred.

Education

Master's degree required, PhD preferred, in Music or related subject area.
