Our R&D Laboratory Technician supports Mativ's Sustainable & Adhesive Solutions. This is an individual contributor role responsible for supporting R&D and new business development efforts by conducting lab testing, maintaining logs and record books, troubleshooting and resolving problems as well as helping with special projects across all the product lines.

responsibilities:

  • Maintain general housekeeping and rigorously follow all safety practices;
  • Learn and run physical and analytical tests as necessary for the R&D lab and production trials;
  • Setup and conduct laboratory testing as needed including assisting with the design and development of new tests and new testing protocols (define problems, identify opportunities and develop solutions - this may include design, implementation and documentation of non-routine testing methods);
  • Blend polymer mixes for lab studies, maintain detailed recordkeeping of blends/process conditions and observations;
  • Maintain laboratory supplies and equipment (submit work requests as needed);
  • Complete projects on time by assigned project team, attending and participating in group and project meetings;
  • Other duties and responsibilities as required;
  • Comply with company policies.

qualifications:

Required

Associate degree (A. A.) in chemistry, engineering or applicable technical field is desired; and/or > 3 years related experience and/or training in papermaking, paper coating production or in an analytical/Quality lab.

  • Ability to learn, analyze, interpret results from numerous testing equipment; general business instructions, or technical procedures;
  • Good communication skills:
    • ability to write trial reports, procedures, business communications, or other as needed;
    • ability to effectively share information and respond to questions from other Scientists, Process Leaders, Sales, and Marketing individuals;
  • Good math skills - the ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations;
  • Ability to collect data, establish facts, problem-solving, and draw valid conclusions;

Preferred

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, be self-motivated, and multi-task;
  • Must have a can-do open-minded attitude and a natural bias towards discovering opportunities (developmental curiosity);
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word;
  • Ability to operate in an ethical and professional manner demonstrating a high degree of integrity.
