Assistant or Associate Faculty of Practice: College of Nursing (Prelicensure Program - Traditional Track)
Position Overview: The Concordia University, St. Paul College of Nursing invites applications for two full-time faculty positions (Assistant or Associate Faculty of Practice) for immediate hire. The full-time faculty positions will provide instruction in didactic (face-to-face and/or online), laboratory, simulation, and clinical environments. The selected candidates will fulfill teaching, scholarship, and service responsibilities consistent with areas of expertise and rank designation.

Essential Duties of the Position

Faculty at Concordia University, St. Paul work as members of an academic team of full- and part-time colleagues to consistently deliver high-quality instruction to students. Faculty are expected to demonstrate innovation and excellence in curriculum planning, foster an atmosphere of active intellectual and creative engagement with students in and out of the classroom, and support the Christian mission of the university. With students at the center of the university's mission, delivering a high-quality student experience is a top priority of the Concordia learning community.
  • Facilitate quality student learning by teaching assigned courses.
  • Collaboratively design assigned courses (with input from colleagues, industry experts, instructional design experts, and administration) in alignment with approved student learning outcomes that advance student learning, retention, and graduation and meet university requirements. Include strategies and methods that promote effective student learning (for example, active learning techniques).
  • Participate, as assigned, in the academic unit's ongoing curriculum development, assessment, program reviews, and accreditation efforts.
  • Demonstrates a professional and collegial demeanor in working with students, colleagues, and the larger Concordia University, St. Paul learning community.
  • Attend faculty meetings and development activities to enhance teaching skills, stay current in their field, and network with other professionals.
  • Provide service to the university and discipline as appropriate to the faculty member's role and responsibility within the academic unit.
  • Pursue a scholarly agenda appropriate to the discipline and the faculty member's role and responsibility.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
  • Follow the university and academic unit's policies and procedures.
Priority Principle Responsibilities
  • Increase student course engagement by providing a positive and regular presence within the course (at least four days per week for online courses) by engaging students through course activities and ongoing availability to provide student support.
  • Provide substantive and timely feedback on course assessments, following academic unit and university guidelines, within the Learning Management System, typically within seven business days of the assessments; due dates.
  • Respond to student inquiries typically within 24 hours during business days unless otherwise specified at the college level (48 hours on weekends, with closer monitoring if assignments are due during the weekend or on Monday).
  • Work collaboratively in a supportive academic environment, partnering with academic advising, career development, and the academic team to ensure each student has the resources they need to succeed.
Education & Experience:
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Commitment to the mission and values of a Lutheran University
  • Master's degree in nursing: MSN
  • Unencumbered Minnesota Registered Nurse Licensure and ability to get licensed in Oregon
  • The equivalent of 3 years (6,240 hours) nursing or academic teaching experience
  • Adult medical-surgical experience
Preferred:
  • Terminal degree: DNP or PhD or other health-related terminal degree
  • Online teaching experience
  • Obstetric and/or pediatric experience or willingness to develop knowledge in these areas
  • Certification or Licensure: RN Eligibility for unencumbered Minnesota and Oregon Nursing License
  • The equivalent of 3 years Full-time patient care experience as a registered nurse (RN)

Physical Demands: The physical demands of this position are consistent with a professional office environment and require regular sitting, standing, and walking/moving about. Additional demands, or those inconsistent with a professional office environment, are detailed below.

Additional Demands: This position requires instruction in laboratory and clinical environments.

Working Conditions: This position operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, printers, filing cabinets, and other office equipment typically found in such an environment. Exceptions to this environment are indicated below (i.e.: noise exposure, exposure to natural elements, etc.).

This position requires instruction in laboratory and clinical healthcare environments.
