DLZ Corporation currently has a GIS Specialist opportunity in Detroit and Waterford, MI. We are looking for a highly talented and motivated individual to provide GIS, application and programming assistance to our engineers and clients for various municipal, industrial, and institutional projects.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Integrate ecological, economic and resource management information using GIS and other computer based analytical tools.
  • Assist with the planning and development of GIS based applications for parcel as well as water, sewer, stormwater and other infrastructure layers.
  • Use GIS-based analytical procedures, map and report production and presentation of analytical results. Help develop a growing client base for GIS services.
  • Recognize and edit all GIS file formats. Ex. ESRI software, MicroStation, AutoCAD, Intergraph software.
  • Analyze engineering documents and visually or programmatically interpolate the information to a geo-reference or contextual database.
  • Communicate with non-GIS technical staff to determine user requirements and translate into a document that can be used to model GIS data.
  • Develop, implement, and manage geographic information systems (GIS) projects. Creates and maintains data and scans documents and photographs into the GIS. Performs quality control checks on data.
  • Analyze and interpret spatial data to produce maps, reports, and other products.
  • Performs research, gathers and enters data from a variety of sources. Operates Global Positioning System (GPS) equipment and conducts fieldwork as required
  • Perform all work in a safe and responsible manner, in accordance with the Health and Safety Plan.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in geography, surveying, computer science, urban planning or related field, equivalent experience will be considered.

  • One or more-year relevant experience

  • Must be able to read and interpret maps and surveys

  • Knowledge of the latest principles, practices, and techniques of GIS. Ability to produce professional, high quality, GIS-based cartographic products.

  • Relevant experience with AutoCAD and/or MicroStation.

  • Proficient use of computers ESRI ArcGIS Desktop or other GIS software experience

  • Experience with ESRI based applications such as Trimble / Cityworks preferred
  • Familiarity with Python programming and report generation such as Crystal Reports is desirable.
  • Microsoft Office experience is required
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Possesses strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to visit and safely traverse construction and project sites and complying with all applicable safety codes and requirements.
