The Honors College is looking to recruit an Academic Advisor III who will be responsible for full-breadth academic advisement for high-ability Honors College students at Georgia State University. The Advisor will assist academic departments/units with verbal or written academic planning, advisement interpretation, and implementation of university and Honors College policies and procedures in student enrollment and evaluation.

HERE IS WHAT YOU WILL DO

* Counsel and advise first-year and new transfer students about degree requirements, academic regulations, and resources available at the University and in the Honors College.
* Review AP/IB/DE credits so that students are advised on how to optimize their schedules.
* Work with staff in Admissions and Enrollment Services to recruit high ability students.
* Participate in Accepted Student Visits, Scholarship Day, Evening with President Blake, and other recruitment activities to increase awareness of the Honors College.
* Coordinate with faculty and academic colleges to make sure honors students are on track for graduation.
* Advise prospective and current Honors College students about academic requirements and selection of courses.
* Disseminate information on Honors College policies and procedures to faculty, parents, students, etc.
* Maintain student records throughout their academic careers and update as necessary.
* Audit student records for curriculum, major and graduation requirements.
* Regularly communicates with students regarding course scheduling and major requirements, academic resources, etc.
* Track student progress toward completion of Honors Laureate distinctions.
* Coordinate Honors College New Student Experiences.
* Responsibilities include coordinating the honors academic advisement experience for first-semester New Student Orientation programs; coordinates with GSU NSO Director and staff.
* Trains honors staff and student assistants on all aspects of the Honors New Student Orientation process.
* Counsels and advises first-semester and transfer students re: degree requirements, academic policies/regulations, and resources available at the university and the Honors College.
* Coordinates with the Honors College Admissions Team as the honors advisement point of contact for high-ability recruitment.
* Assists Events Team with all New Student signature events, including Induction and New Student Welcome events.
* Coordinates the Honors Helping Honors Student Mentor Program.
* Promotes the Honors Helping Honors Mentor Program. Hires and trains mentors.

Qualifications:

Minimum Hiring Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree and either 1) 6 months experience as "Academic Advisor II" at GSU (University Advisement Center or other GSU advising department) or 2) five years of related experience; or a combination of education and related experience.

Preferred Hiring Qualifications:

Preference may be given to those who possess a Master's degree and five years of experience working with student retention or student affairs programs; previous experience as a lead worker or mentor to junior staff; excellent oral and written communication skills; experience presenting to groups or with group facilitation; experience following up on problems until resolution. Proficiency with Banner, Excel, and student tracking applications such as Navigate, Degree Works, or similar products.
