Position Summary, Job Requirements & Responsibilities

It is imperative that all system modifications and new features include extensive planning and are thoroughly verified before becoming operational - even the smallest change can have a significant impact. A Configuration Management Specialist at Aireon manages these changes to the systems and services throughout the entire system and service lifecycles and ensures that key technical and performance milestones are met.

A Configuration Management Specialist is responsible for ensuring that all changes, whether to requirements, hardware, software, documentation, or processes and procedures, are properly reviewed by accountable authorities and artifacts are properly documented and stored for audit purposes. A Configuration Management Specialist leads impact analysis discussions and is central to communicating the statuses of change requests throughout the company, with suppliers, and with vendors.

Aireon works with multiple technical and developmental partners in the design, development, and test of the Aireon System and Service, and a Configuration Management Specialist must be ready to collaborate as part of this energetic team. A Configuration Management Specialist will work closely with all factions of the Engineering Department, including Systems Engineering, Implementation, Product Development, Quality Assurance, Logistics, Program Management, Contracts, Safety, and Security and reports to the Senior Manager of Compliance and Assurance.

This position is a wholistic configuration management position that encompasses document and record management, software configuration management, hardware configuration management, asset management, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance.

What You'll Do

    Change Management
    • Support the complete workflow process to ensure successful development and revision of engineering/program management documents, hardware, and software.
    • Regulate the change process so that only approved and validated changes are incorporated into product documents and related software and hardware.
    • Once approved, review change requests for completeness.
    • Prepare and revise engineering/program management procedures as necessary to provide clear, concise instruction for the preparation, release, and control of engineering/program management documents, software, and hardware.
    • Document process information using visual diagrams in the form of business process models.
    • Design business processes and manage any subsequent changes to them.
  • Document Management
    • Establish and implement policies and procedures regarding document storage, sharing, transmission, and destruction.
    • Develop and manage engineering/program related process documentation.
    • Work with cross-functional teams to produce clear, complete, and technically accurate documentation.
    • Participate in discussions with internal/external customers in the development of source data for process documents.
  • Quality Assurance
    • Comply with established quality processes to ensure accuracy, ease of use, and timely delivery of content.
    • Work with the Quality Assurance team to ensure department workflows and business processes are followed.
    • Analyze process models as they are (As-is), compare them to the future and improved designs (To-be) and determine the necessary changes for arriving at the improved state.
    • Monitor and measure the effectiveness of processes to ensure consistent value delivery.
    • Support company compliance with applicable laws and regulations regarding data security and document management.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

Desired Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in related field.
  • At least three years of related experience required.
  • Prior experience using Atlassian Suite and/or Azure DevOps.
  • Network architecture, systems administration, and/or database administration.
  • Microsoft SharePoint administrator.
  • Basic understanding of laws and regulations.

1-3-6-12 Month Plan

In the first month we'll expect you to...

  • Get onboarded and train with your manager.
  • Get acclimated into the role.
  • Shadow Aireon Engineering staff.
  • Gain familiarity with Aireon Engineering repositories in Jira, Confluence, and SharePoint.

At 3 months we'll expect you to...

  • Describe the Aireon air traffic surveillance (ATS) system and service at a high-level.
  • Understand Aireon's day-to-day operations.
  • Process documentation requests.

At 6 months we'll expect you to...

  • Manage change board logistics
  • Be familiar with Aireon's commercial products
  • Understand the regulatory environment which Aireon operates within
  • Take on new tasking with minimal management oversight

At 12 months we'll expect you to...

  • Facilitate the change board meetings.
  • Take on a subject matter expert (SME) role within cross-functional teams in supporting documentation, change, and quality assurance processes and procedures.
  • Ensure that any new configuration update will continue to meet or exceed existing requirements and regulations.
  • Investigate issues identified from customers, coworkers, or events ranging from process inefficiencies to system enhancements and work collaboratively to resolve them.

About the Team

  • Small team but we are growing fast!
  • Hybrid-office environment (average 2+ days/week in office).
  • We stay connected through Teams chats, in-person and virtual meetings, and email.
  • Team meets regularly:
    • 2-3 times a week (half-hour tops) to review tasking and determine where we can help each other out.
    • Weekly with the manager to discuss project/tasking risks and company updates.
