The Innovation and Development Division (IDD) drives the innovation strategy for the Hubs and Operations, and contributes to the Group's transformation. It is responsible for imagining, developing and incubating new solutions until they are brought to market, particularly when it comes to offers with a high technological content (including digital and IT). IDD gathers more than 3,000 employees from 70 nationalities at 60 sites.

How will you CONTRIBUTE and GROW?

The Analysis & Fine Chemistry group in Air Liquide's Delaware Innovation Campus in Newark, Delaware is seeking a talented, collaborator, highly motivated researcher to join our multidisciplinary group supporting the development of new chemistries for high-tech industrial applications. This team develops and tunes targeted molecules to suit customers application processes for use in electronics, automotive, aerospace and healthcare industries.
The ideal candidate will be responsible for projects involving product development activities to support new gases for semiconductor applications including gas separations, distillation, and associated technologies for the production, purification, analysis and use of industrial gases for semiconductor applications.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serve as a safety role model and promote a high level of safety awareness and continuous improvement in safety practices.

  • Take the initiative to ensure IMS compliance within the team and the facility. Participate in product development efforts by identifying product development technology gaps by interacting with the business units.

  • Develop and implement new gas analytical methods and distillation/purification technologies to meet project requirements such as Gas chromatography with a variety of detectors such as TCD, FID, MS as well as other analytical equipments such as FTIR, UV-VIS, ICPMS and moisture analyzers.

  • Contribute technically to Research and Development (R&D) projects Electronic material development involving distillation, adsorption, and separations technologies for production and purification processes in support of company's business.

  • Identify and participate in pertinent training to build know-how on purification and analytical technologies.

  • Develop new analytical methods and apply them to new gas and material development

  • Analyze new gases, understand their stability and properties, support the development of mechanism and fundamental understanding of the product breakdown processes and interaction with other materials

  • Develop, design, and operate experiments (bench scale through pilot scale) to support the evaluation and characterization of separation processes for targeted applications.

  • Define and execute experiments to meet R&D deliverables in a timely manner. Participate in distillation column design, engineering, review, approval and testing.

  • Work within the R&D and Air Liquide's operational units. Recognize and document patentable findings and promote innovative development of intellectual property.

  • Conduct literature and patent searches to support the project. Prepare presentation material for internal meetings and operations units.

  • Participate in transfer of process know-how and methods to operation units. Understand immediate businesses technical needs and propose new technical solutions to meet those needs.

  • Interact with company's global business and marketing teams. Work with engineering, distillation and gas separation processes.

  • Be ready to adapt to a changing environment, to work on different projects as priorities change.

Required Qualifications

  • PhD in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or Material Science or related science

  • Expertise and hand-on experience with multiple analytical techniques such as GC, NDIR/FT-IR, MS, ICPMS, moisture analysis and related techniques for the analysis of industrial or semiconductor gases.

  • Experience working on interdisciplinary topics and with strong ability to interact efficiently in an international environment.

  • Demonstrates strong process and operational safety behavior at all times.


Preferred Qualifications

  • 3+ years of industrial experience with handling and analysis of hazardous materials, including solid, liquids and gases, semiconductor related materials is preferred.

  • Experience in design and operation of gas and liquid purification processes

  • Understanding of LabView, AutoCAD and design of experiments (DOE)

  • Strong command of English language, verbal and written

  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Ability to collect and organize data and to recognize problems that could impede completion of a project

  • Self-starter and results driven; able to deliver despite challenging obstacles by taking calculated risks and showing flexibility with respect to changing conditions/priorities;

  • Self-motivation with ability to define and solve problems in collaboration with AL business partners and external partners and customers.

  • Willingness to learn new skills with a self driven motivation to grow and build new capabilities

  • Experience with surface science techniques such as SEM, EDS, XPS, XRD, etc is a plus

Exempt / Salary Postings

The Salary rate range for this position in "Delaware" is $108K - $113K
