The successful candidate:

The Executive Chef is a critical leader for the culinary program, responsible for all food production including all items produced for the main dining room, inpatient dining, online and infusion meal programs, and special events and catering. The Executive Chef plans and implements a variety of nutritionally balanced, attractive, and cost-effective menus, including modified diets, and maintains the highest professional food quality, hygiene, and sanitation standards throughout the operation ensuring high levels of guest satisfaction. Works closely with Nutrition Department to ensure diet compliance for patients and Wellness Initiative for the hospital.

This role directly supervises culinary personnel and shares responsibility with team leaders to manage staffing, hiring, onboarding, staff recognition, training, and development, and managing performance in accordance with established department and hospital policies and procedures.

Minimum Job Qualifications

Education:

  • High School Diploma, or equivalent

  • Degree in Culinary Arts, Hotel Restaurant Management, or related field preferred

Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience. 5-Star restaurant management experience preferred

License/ Certification/ Permit:

  • Currently dated Food Handler's Permit from County/State Health Department in which you reside required. Manager ServeSafe preferred.

  • Certification from an American National Standards Institute (ANSI) - Conference for Food Protection (CFP) Food Protection Manager accredited program or obtained within 30 days of hire (Required in IL). ServeSafe preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Proven ability to produce creative & high quality, nutritious recipes, and menus with seasonal influences

  • Ability to identify defects in food preparation and service and implement improved quality control procedures.

  • Strong and effective communication abilities with a diverse group of kitchen and dining room staff

  • Proficient in computer use, Microsoft Office Suite, and ability to quickly become proficient on relevant technologies required to perform job (POS, Computrition, financial and ordering, and other applications)

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

  • Strong leadership ability and customer services skills

  • Ability to be flexible, adapting to changing conditions in a fast-paced environment
