The Position

Meets all Job Specifications of Technician l & Technician ll. Advanced working knowledge of all functions of Technician l & Technician ll. Serves as Subject-Matter-Expert to the Technician I & Technician II position. Install, turn-up, test and troubleshoot T1/PRI, Voice, Video, Data, and Internet services. Turn-up, provision, test, maintain and troubleshoot GPON/PON, Routers, Switches, Channel Banks, DSL equipment, VoIP level services, etc. Installs cross-connects at cross connect and LCC cabinets for new copper/fiber circuits. Understand IP Networking. Perform configuration of IP devices. Ability and knowledge to install, operate, and maintain the company's portfolio of residential and business products and services. May be required to serve as In-Charge when Manager/Supervisor is on vacation or out-of-the office. Performs other duties as assigned by Manager/Supervisor. Training Components Technician lll - (Non-Inclusive) ADTRAN, Zhone, SmartRG, AirTies, Cabling & Testing, Advanced OTDR, HST 3000 or newer, Tberd, Light Level Meter, and various other training that is deemed necessary to support the Technician III position.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Installations / Troubleshooting basic through advanced Voice, Data, Internet, Video, and VoIP level services on Copper and Fiber
  • Working on computer for Data entry - Updating Trouble Tickets, Orders Timesheet's, system & equipment provisioning, advanced security services to include Web Filtering, Intrusion Detection and Intrusion Prevention features, Internet Services and VPN Connectivity.
  • Cloud Voice - Router configuration, Advanced SIP troubleshooting, Packet Captures and analysis
  • Advanced SIP Analog and Digital Subscriber Line Services - Router configuration.
  • SIP Trunks VIA SBC - Advance knowledge - Configuration and installation of SBC routers to provide SIP Based telephony services. Troubleshoot SIP Issues, Perform Packet Captures and packet analysis.
  • WI-FI - Provision Wi-Fi to include SSID configuration, Guest Network Access, and wireless firewall options. Troubleshoot and repair wireless issues. Open and manage support cases when necessary.
  • Premise based PBX - Provision and Install CPE PBX's. Support and Troubleshoot issues as needed.
  • WAN Technologies - advanced knowledge to configure, install, and maintain Routing equipment.
  • Installation/Troubleshooting customer premise equipment (Residential Gateways, Routers, switches, security systems, network security firewall devices. Etc.)
  • Installation / Troubleshoouing Circuits (T1, PRI, Broadband, ect.)
  • Serves as an area SME for the Technician I and Technicn II positions when assistance and support is required.

Qualifications

  • Education:
    • Associates/Bachelor's degree or 5-7 years' experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience in related field. Associates degree in electronics and/or networking preferred.

  • Experience. Skills, and proficiencies:
    • Five to seven years telecommunications industry experience
    • Network +, Cabling certification, Basic Electrical, Basic Telephony, Grounding
    • Ability to read and understand cross connects for copper cabinets and Fiber LCC cabinets and splitters
    • Experience with advanced GPON and Fiber based services and equipment
    • Experience with Voice services and associated hardware
    • Experience with Video services and associated hardware
    • Experience with LAN/WAN services and associated hardware
    • Experience and knowledge of network/data equipment
    • Experience with IP routing and Switching
    • Experience with SIP based VOIP communications - Preferred
    • Experience with call routing
    • Experience with firewalls and security devices
    • Ability to make sound business decisions that support customer expectations, Technician I and II positions, as well as provide positive benefit for the organization
    • Willingness to attend various schools, training classes, and seminars as deemed necessary to support the Technician III position
  • Key Competencies:
    • Reside within 30 minutes of normal reporting location including home-based. Quality - Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness; Looks for ways to improve and promote quality; Applies feedback to improve performance; Monitors own work to ensure quality.
    • Ability to climb a utility pole (not applicable in CLEC areas) and work aloft, carry and handle extension ladders, step ladder as applicable to Job responsibilities.
    • Capable of lifting 50 lbs. and transport 50 feet.
    • Availability to work various hours, schedules, weather conditions, including weekends, holidays, overtime, and callouts as required.
    • Ability to work in attics, crawl spaces and confined areas.
