SUMMARY OF POSITION:

The Operations Manager reports directly to the Regional Operations Manager and is responsible for all facets of railroad operations. The Operations Manager must improve profitability by driving safety, efficiency, and effective processes. This position is employed by an affiliated company of Patriot Rail.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Responsible for managing the safety, service performance, operating practices and financial performance of railroad operations.

* Accountable for safety and environmental law compliance including adherence to all company policies and procedures.

* Lead the execution of the railroad operations to meet or exceed budget and other financial goals through direction and interaction with the management team.

* Direct planning and budget development of the railroad to support strategic business goals of the Region and Company.

* Develops new business opportunities, ensures excellent customer service, expands business and maintains existing relationships.

* Selects, trains, manages and coaches employees.

* Implement Company policies and procedures and promote Company core values both within and outside the Organization.

* Develop and maintain high performance standards and positive employee relations within the Railroad.

* Build and maintain a positive relationship with customers and interchange partners.

* Evaluate Railroad asset requirements and capital improvement projects to improve performance and asset utilization.

* Accountable for the development and periodic review of operating procedures for all railroad including all technical, operational and support functions.

* Additional duties as assigned.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

* Qualified candidates should have at least a high school diploma; Bachelor's degree strongly preferred.

* Minimum of 5 to 8 years work experience in the railroad industry with supervisory duties.

* Knowledge and understanding of FRA regulations required.

* Current/prior railroad budget management experience required.

* Current/prior railroad Conductor required and Railroad Engineer Certification preferred.

* Strong management and customer relations skills required.

* Work safely to prevent on the job accidents and injuries.

* Wear protective equipment including hearing protection, safety steel-toe boots, or safety glasses.

* Work hours may include a nonstandard workweek, including on-call 7 days a week, 24 hours per day, with extended periods of time away from home and short rest between assignments in accordance with the hours of service regulation.

* Complete annual training and pass safety operating rules examination.

* Federal regulations require random testing for drugs and/or alcohol.

* Must pass all required assessments.

* Must pass a background screening.

* May require a post-offer medical examination, including drug and physical capabilities test.

* Valid Driver's License

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, handle objects, reach with hands and arms, write, talk, type and hear. Associate is occasionally required to sit, stoop, bend and/or kneel and lift and/or move up to 80 lbs. Must be able to work outside in all weather conditions.
