Join Our Mission


The Secure Detention Counselor II position's primary responsibility is to serve as a member of the rapid response team and ensure facility safety and security protocols are being adhered to, including conducting security inspections, responding to critical incidents, and follow up reporting.

Job Responsibilities

  • Supervises, counsels, and instructs facility residents in daily living, recreational, and/or
  • educational activities as needed.
  • Assists staff with training compliance and provides security screening (metal detector) of
  • staff and visitors as needed.
  • Responsible for assisting with coordinating and assisting in training compliance for staff.
  • They provide assistance to shift supervisors in the supervision and observation of facility
  • residents and the implementation of program activities.
  • Maintains narrative log records of shift activities and reviews log records for accuracy and
  • Assists in the supervision of residents; supervise visitation programs between residents,
  • family, and court-approved visitors.
  • Assist with resident phone calls as needed.
  • Provides informal guidance and counsel to juveniles; participates along with other
  • professionals and paraprofessional staff as a team member in implementing appropriate
  • treatment strategies for facility residents.
  • Attends casework planning meetings; maintains appropriate records, files, and or logs;
  • distributes and inventories all necessary supplies used by residents.
  • Supervises overall safety and security procedures; responds to critical incidents and
  • completes necessary follow-up reports following critical incidents and emergency situations.
  • Direct supervision of residents as required.
  • Conducts random facility security checks on each scheduled shift, reports findings to shift
  • supervisor and completes security log.
  • Ensures that residents are cared for in a safe, structured, secure environment.
  • Other related activities may be performed although not listed.
  • Core Competencies (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities)
  • Demonstrated communication skills, both oral and written, including attention to detail.

Requirements

  • Associates Degree in Human Services (or equivalent) plus 2 years of full-time paid experience working with at-risk youth in a residential setting OR 4 years of full-time paid experience working with at-risk youth in a residential setting.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule with variable hours including day, evening,
  • weekend, holiday, and subject to call hours.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively perform agency-approved restraint techniques.
  • Ability to work with an economically and culturally diverse population.
  • Capable of working in a stressful environment.
  • Ability to become TCI, First/Aid CPR certified.

Schedule

  • 3PM-11PM, Friday and Saturday off
  • 3PM-11PM, Sunday and Monday off
