Laboratory Tech III or IV

Central Office - Waco, Texas


SUMMARY OF POSITION: The purpose of this position is to conduct quality analysis of water and/or wastewater as part of a team for the Brazos River Authority (BRA). This is accomplished by analyzing samples according to established laboratory procedures; evaluating the treatment of chemicals to verify material quality; assisting with analytical needs of special projects; calibrating, verifying, and troubleshooting instrumentation; entering daily analytical and operational data into spreadsheets, databases, and regulatory reports; and assisting the Deputy Quality Assurance Officer and/or the Lab Manager in developing standard operating procedures for assigned analyses. Other responsibilities include gathering samples from various BRA locations; collecting, receiving, and shipping samples; completing analyses; performing required equipment maintenance; and any other duties as assigned.


REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES: Knowledge of scientific procedures, general laboratory techniques, basic statistics, and computer operation. Skill/Ability to operate a computer; operate specified laboratory instrumentation; maintain accurate records and a laboratory notebook; perform basic equipment maintenance and follow basic laboratory procedures. Demonstrate proficiency in oral and written communication; and establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers. Familiarity with wet chemistry analysis, spectroscopy, fluorometry, ion chromatography, and flow injection analyses is a plus.


ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE & TRAINING: Work requires broad knowledge in a scientific profession or technical field. Knowledge is normally acquired through four years of college resulting in a Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, ecology, and/or environmental studies or an equivalent combination of knowledge and experience. A minimum of sixteen (16) college credit hours in chemistry. A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of knowledge and experience is required. A minimum of 3 years in lab experience is required.


CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED: Texas driver's license and a good driving record.


SALARY RANGE AND POSITION:

Based on experience and qualifications the position could be one of the below levels.

$21.65 to $27.61 per hour Lab Tech III - Minimum 3 years experience

$23.26 to $29.65 per hour Lab Tech IV - Minimum 5 years experience

Each of these positions is non-exempt.
