Echocardiography Technologist Technical Coordinator

Position Objective:

Performs echocardiographic procedures, using specialized equipment, to measure, calculate, and report pertinent patient data facilitating accurate diagnostic outcome. Responsible for accreditation of lab.

Essential Job Duties:

  1. Conducts Echocardiograms as requested throughout the Medical Center, including all patient rooms and emergency room.
  2. Explains procedure to patients, provide instructions, obtain pertinent clinical data, and provide direct care to ensure patient comfort.
  3. Recognizes artifacts, eliminates probable sources and troubleshoots minor equipment problems; processes images according to establish policies and procedures.
  4. Performs data entry as it relates to procedures including charges pick lists, logbook, and schedule related functions to ensure corporate compliance
  5. Practices radiation safety and ensures that other staff and students are compliant.
  6. Analyzes, processes, and reports outcomes in a timely manner.
  7. Coordinate and collaborate with leadership for clinical oversight of policies and procedures.
  8. Responsible for daily technical operation of the echo lab including equipment maintenance and quality control.
  9. Responsible for oversight of IAC standards, ICAEL accreditation and re-accreditation process.
  10. Maintain electronic documents, audits, technical training and education of staff and physicians needed to retain accreditation.

Educational/Experience Requirements:

Required Minimum Education. The minimum level of education for this position includes:

  • High School graduate or equivalent
  • Successful completion of an accredited Echocardiography program
  • Registered Echo Sonographer Five (5) years' experience in Echocardiography with a minimum of two years' experience performing adult and pediatric echocardiograms, TEE's, and stress echocardiograms.

Required License/Certifications:

  • Registered Echo Sonographer (RDCS, ARDMS or CCI)
  • Current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS CPR certification

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

Ability to perform, measure, and preliminary interpret echo studies

Working Conditions, Equipment, Physical Demands:

Heavy work. Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

There is reasonable expectation that employees in this position will be exposed to blood-borne pathogens.
