Our state-of-the art 16-bed pediatrics department is the only dedicated children's health unit between Eugene and Redding. Often referred to as a hospital within a hospital, we offer a full range of care for children ages one day to 17 years. Our outstanding team of clinicians includes pediatric physicians, nurses and therapists.
As we offer comprehensive follow-up care in pediatric surgery, orthopedics, neurology, hematology, nephrology, oncology and intermediate care, you will have a unique opportunity to work with a team of skilled healthcare professionals across a variety of pediatric services. Our team partners with Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) as our intensive care consults have been offered through the OHSU telemedicine network since 2010.
What You'll Do
- Provide opportunities for expression of feelings through individual and group therapeutic play
- You will interview and evaluate patient/family members to obtain psychosocial history
- Plan interventions in conjunction with the interdisciplinary team
- Provide developmentally appropriate education for children and adolescents prior to medical procedures with materials and language that are age appropriate
- Coordinate programming and special events for pediatric patients and their families
- Provide orientation and supervision for Child Life interns and volunteers.
Who You Are
- You are experience in providing evidence based developmentally appropriate interventions through play, preparation and education in effort to reduce a child's fear and pain.
- You currently practice under the Association of Child Life Professionals organization, which provide the latest best practices
- You are experienced in providing high quality care to patients and their families
- You have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to function within a healthcare team environment
What You Must Have
Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Child Life, Child Development, or closely related field required
- Master's Degree in Education, Child Life, Child Development, or a related field preferred
Experience
- One-year paid experience as a Child Life Specialist; preferred
- Child Life internship required
Licensure
- Certified Child Life Specialist (CCLS) through the Association of Child Life Professionals required
