More than seventy five years ago, our local leaders established Barnesville Hospital knowing the importance of having a healthcare facility in their community. Today, our families, friends, and visitors are the beneficiaries of those who invested their time, energy, and resources to make Barnesville Hospital a reality.
WVU Medicine Barnesville, a charitable, not for profit organization, offers a broad range of services, including primary care, specialty care, and emergency care. The quality of care provided by WVU Medicine Barnesville Hospital, a Medicare Critical Access Hospital, has been recognized by numerous accrediting agencies, including the Joint Commission, which awarded Barnesville Hospital with accreditation — a nationwide symbol of quality healthcare. It has been an affiliate of Wheeling Hospital, which became a full member of the WVU Health System on April 1, since 2017.
As full members of the Health System, Barnesville and Harrison Community hospitals are part of a broad, integrated network of doctors, hospitals, clinics, and specialized institutes across West Virginia, Southwestern Pennsylvania, Western Maryland, and Eastern Ohio. Today, the WVU Health System, which operates under the brand WVU Medicine, has more than 27,000 employees; more than 2,815 providers; and more than 2.5 million patient visits annually.
