Summary

The mission of Student Involvement is to develop student leaders and contribute to a vibrant campus life. The coordinator supports student organizations by managing the annual registration process and providing leadership education and training, in addition to advising the Student Programming Board. The coordinator is a member of the Student Involvement team and has shared responsibility for the achievement of departmental goals and contributing to assessment initiatives.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support student organizations by advising event planning, logistics, and implementation, providing guidance and/or access to campus resources such as organization accounts and T-SPACE reservation access and approval. Provide guidance on campus policies and procedures as they relate to student organizations. Approve student organization space reservation requests. Serve on the Event Review Committee and contribute to risk reduction tactics, committee processes, and campus training efforts in order to support a vibrant campus life while underscoring the safety and wellness of the TU and guest community. Plan and implement a fall and spring campus-wide Student Involvement Fair.
  • Advise Student Programming Board (SPB), a University Sponsored organization responsible for campus programming (including late night and weekend programming), and direct all aspects of student programming on campus, including program planning, evaluation/assessment, and budget management.
  • Act as a resource regarding University, local, state, and federal policies and laws and provide training and support on issues of risk management as directed by the state of Texas. On an annual basis, facilitate the review of relevant student organization policies, including the Student Organization Handbook and Adviser’s Manual.
  • Coordinate and maintain the annual student organization recognition process for approximately 100+ student organizations.
  • Plan and execute Student Leadershipalooza (annual student leader training), New Presidents Meetings, and various training (including Risk Management Training, T-SPACE training) for approximately 150 incoming student leaders of student organizations, including recruiting and training a student team that helps implement programming.
  • Coach student organization leaders through organizational challenges. Act as a leadership consultant for student organization officers and leaders by coordinating workshops and training on an as-needed basis. All staff members in Student Involvement may serve as consultants and trainers.
  • Support continued implementation and use of the Presence platform that enables collection of student organization rosters, annual registration, and event information forms, among other features.

Requirements

Experience

Required:
At least one year of full-time or graduate assistantship experience in student programming, leadership development, or related functional area.
Preferred:
  • Student Affairs experience in advising, training, leadership education, counseling, and student programming. An understanding of student development theory.
  • Proven commitment to and appreciation for issues of diversity and community. Ability to articulate issues and trends in higher education.
  • Experience designing and conducting assessment activities. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability working in a fast-paced environment and ability to manage multiple tasks with poise and patience.

Knowledge

Required:
  • Knowledge of Google Suite and Microsoft Office. Knowledge of office procedures and customer service.
  • Knowledge of student development theories and student leadership theories. Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to problem solve and think critically. Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines. Ability to provide excellent customer service.
  • Ability to use time efficiently in projects.
  • Ability to manage a budget and work within the constraints of that budget. Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships.
  • Ability to plan, implement, and evaluate programs.
Preferred:
  • An understanding of student development theory.

Education Requirements

Required:
Master's degree or equivalent.
Preferred:
Master's degree in Student Personnel/Student Affairs or related field.

Licenses and Certifications

Required:
Required to be an authorized driver and van certified upon approval of position.
