Job Description
Summary

The Associate Director of Planned Giving plays an integral part in achieving Alumni Relations and Development’s strategic goal of significantly increasing support through planned gift commitments from alumni, friends, and parents of the University. Candidates must demonstrate a history of managing a portfolio of individual donors, and working effectively with institutional leaders and colleagues to cultivate, solicit and steward major and planned gifts.  Candidates must also have a proven record of soliciting gifts from individuals. The selected applicant must cooperate and collaborate with other employees in the spirit of teamwork and collegiality as well as comply with all Trinity University policies and guidelines. The Associate Director of Planned Giving works with planned giving staff to manage the administration of all active estates and other testamentary gifts, including communications with attorneys, fiduciaries, and other advisers. The Associate Director will report to the Director of Planned Giving.

Schedule
  • Satisfying minimum attendance requirements is an essential function of this position, including working all full-time regular hours as established for this position and any scheduled or emergency overtime. 
  • Ability to travel with occasional evening and weekend work required to meet office deadlines.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Manage a portfolio of up to 120 planned gift prospective donors by conducting timely moves management on all prospects in portfolio to maximize fundraising potential for the University. This work includes developing cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies for each prospect in order to secure new planned giving commitments and new Heritage Society members (Trinity’s planned giving society). Travel locally and domestically to conduct visits with planned giving donors and prospects to advance TU’s relationships.
  • Develop and implement a plan to educate constituents about the benefits or planned giving through presentations, seminars and events on estate and retirement planning.  Assist in planning the annual Heritage Society luncheon, Trinity on Tour program, 51+ Reunions and other events.
  • Partner with other university offices and Alumni Relations and Development colleagues to advance TUs relationship with prospective and current planned giving donors.
  • Track interactions with planned giving donors and prospects, including prospect qualification, proposal strategies, and project monitoring in the TU database and following all established protocols and maintaining the integrity of those records, including key documents and reporting deadlines.
  • Stay abreast of tax law changes and continuously enhance knowledge of planned giving vehicles and benefits. 

Experience

      Required:
  • A minimum of three years of frontline fundraising experience with a demonstrated ability to achieve and exceed goals.  Knowledge of planned giving vehicles and experience in soliciting and closing planned gifts is also required.
  • Experience soliciting and securing planned gift commitments such as charitable bequests, beneficiary designations, immediate and deferred charitable gift annuities and other outright and deferred planned gifts.
      Preferred:
  • Experience with a donor management system and planned giving software (such as PG Calc or Crescendo) strongly preferred. 

Skills
  • Excellent verbal and written skills, with a demonstrated ability to write compelling and strategic funding and partnership proposals as well as stewardship reports.
  • Ability to engage donors, understand their charitable and financial goals, and prepare charitable gift vehicle(s) that will best accomplish those goals.
  • An entrepreneurial and pro-active leadership style with a proven ability to create opportunities.
  • Able to work in a collaborative team environment as well as autonomously to meet goals and objectives
  • Ability to be flexible and effective in assisting with complex situations involving numerous and sometimes competing constituencies.
  • Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality and responsibility regarding information related to corporate and university business and confidential prospect information.
  • Excellent organizational skills with particular attention to systems, processes, and details, and possess the capacity to multi-task.
  • Ability to learn appropriate levels of information about academic disciplines and interdisciplinary areas.

Knowledge

     Required:
  • Knowledge of planned giving vehicles: charitable bequests, beneficiary designations, immediate and deferred charitable gift annuities and other outright and deferred planned gifts.
  • Tax laws and tax planning
  • Computer literate with knowledge & ability with word processing equipment & familiarity with data entry and retrieval.
  • Working knowledge of Google Suite, Microsoft Word, Excel & PowerPoint
  • Typing, ability to communicate effectively in English with sound knowledge of spelling, punctuation & grammar.

Education Requirements

     Required:
  • Bachelor’s degree
     Preferred:
  • Master's degree

Licenses and Certifications

    Required:
  • Driver’s license

Physical Demands and Working Conditions
  • Usual office conditions.
  • Able to lift up 10lbs frequently, 25lbs occasionally
