Summary
Provides counseling, consultation, educational outreach, and urgent-response services to Trinity University students in support of the mission of the office and the division of Student Life. Primary duties are the provision of direct services to students.
Duties and Responsibilities
Provides personal counseling to enrolled Trinity University students, typically providing support (e.g., during a developmental or situational challenge, or following a traumatic event) or treatment for a psychological condition that does not require long-term or specialized services. Screens clients for psychological disorders and refers for psychiatric evaluation, specialized treatment, and/or long-term therapy as appropriate. Provides clinical services in accordance with Texas law and the ethical principles and code of conduct stipulated by their counseling profession.
Maintains clinical records to document counseling contacts. Participates in clinical staff meetings and receives clinical supervision. Obtains clinically relevant professional development.
Consults with parents, medical and mental health professionals, Student Life staff, faculty and other staff about individual students as the need arises and confidentiality permits.
Consults with the same constituencies regarding the general psychological, developmental, and prevention issues relevant to students.
Shares with other full-time clinical staff in providing timely, effective, and ethical response to urgent requests for psychological intervention with students after hours, in collaboration with Residential Life staff and University Police, through the on-call system.
Provides outreach programming on behalf of Counseling Services or in collaboration with Student Life colleagues including training of student leaders or groups (e.g., Residential Life student staff).

Experience
Required:
One year of cumulative experience in a university counseling center. Practica and internship experiences may satisfy this requirement.
Experience providing affirmative services to diverse clientele including sexual and gender minority clients.
Preferred: Experience facilitating groups.
Knowledge
Required:
Must have strong clinical, interpersonal, organizational, public speaking, and writing skills
Education Requirements
Required: A master’s degree in counseling psychology or clinical psychology, a master’s degree in counseling or counseling education from a CACREP-accredited program, or a master’s degree in clinical social work from a CSWE-accredited program.
Preferred: A doctoral degree in counseling psychology or clinical psychology from an APA-accredited program, a doctoral degree in counseling or counseling education from a CACREP-accredited program, or a doctoral degree in clinical social work.
Licenses and Certifications
Required: Must either be licensed as a mental health professional in Texas (e.g., LPC, LCSW, Psychologist) or, if not licensed in Texas, must become licensed as a Psychologist or Clinical Social Worker in Texas within 18 months of beginning employment in order to remain eligible for reappointment.
